History comes alive as local 5th-grade students study men and women from San Angelo’s past who are buried in historic Fairmount Cemetery.

Established in 1893, Fairmount Cemetery serves as a final resting place for many San Angelo area residents. Numerous historic monuments fill the site and many date back to the 1800’s. The cemetery encompasses more than 57 acres and is designated as a Texas Historic Landmark. The cemetery, rich in history, includes Buffalo Soldiers, Confederate soldiers, soldiers from World Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Additionally, the cemetery has a memorial site for one of the Sept. 11 victims of the Pentagon attack. Many founders of the City of San Angelo, and their families, are interred at Fairmount.
